[...] I recently saw Greg Palast’s documentary; Big Easy to Big Empty.  As many of you know, New Orleans has a very special place in my heart.  I watched in horror as the greatest super power on earth allowed 1,500 people to drown.  The White House said there was no way to know the levees could breach. Living in Florida, I know hurricanes do not sneak up, there is like 5 days notice.  Katrina kicked our ass before heading to the Gulf.  It was a category 5 storm heading for the Big Easy!  Prior to moving to New Oleans, I heard a special on NPR about the levee system in New Orleans.  The jist of it was a big storm would devestate the city.  I found an interesting timeline of Hurricane Katrina.  Michael Brown, former FEMA  director was interviewed on Fox News Sunday saying that he was aware of the levee breach at two in the afternoon on Monday.  The White House was also aware.  Which means we could have saved these people by evacuating them before the water flooded the city.  Common Ground is a grass roots organization helping to rebuild Algiers and the 9th ward.  Please help support their efforts.  Palast’s film is OK, nothing spectacular, however the extras are what makes the film.  Palast is interviewed by Amy Goodman on Democracy Now; that is a must see.
